Who knows the story of Daruma Dolls? How about Foo Dogs?

This image combines both concepts in to one coloring page. This foo dog is guarding the wish held by the Daruma Doll. As tradition has been with these dolls a person will color and decorate their doll as they infuse their wish in the doll. The wish-maker leaves one pupil missing. Once the wish comes true is when the doll receives their other eye.

In this illustration the Foo Dog is also missing one pupil showing that perhaps a guardian too has wishes. Traditionally you will find two Foo Dogs guarding the entrance to a building or bridge or tomb… places that need protection. The male with his paw on top of a ball and the female with her paw on top of a cub.
